About Laser Settings

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

When entering laser treatment parameters, Laser Settings of SPH, CYL and AXIS on the 'Laser Refractive' tab are mandatory and important values for nomogram calculations which must be entered.

Usually an refractive surgery laser comes with a default nomogram, which will modify the SPH/CYL values internally, based on the manufacturers initial study data. These modified internal 'Laser Ablation Values' may or may not be visible to the user and it is important to be consistent with what actually is entered under 'laser settings'.

You must decide at the beginning of data collection whether 'Laser Settings' or 'Laser Ablation Values' are entered and be consistent for all patients in your study group. We recommend to use Laser Settings -the attempted correction values entered into the laser- for simplicity.

The nomogram Datagraph calculates for you under this conditions will be actually a 'touch-up' nomogram or a 'Nomogram on top of your built in nomogram'.

For making a brand new laser nomogram (usually done by the manufacturer) the actual Laser Ablation Values would have to be used. It is important to understand this differences and enter your data accordingly!
